Simon's Town, named after Simon van der Steel, who was cape governor from 1679 - 1699, offers numerous cultural possibilities.

In the main road a building classified as historical monument follows after the next one, for which it is mentioned also as historical Mile. The architecture is British, what does not amaze, because Simon's Town was an important British naval base from 1814 to 1957. In the historical buildings there are numerous interesting junk shops.

At the port you'll find a small Waterfront with restaurants and some shops.
In Simon's Town you might visit the following museums:

Simon's Town Museum
In the residence of the Cape Governor of 1777 you can inform you about the history of the settlement of the Cape Peninsula.

South African Navy Museum
The navigation history of the country is represented here.

Warrior Toy Museum
This toy museum points out a collection from the time of the British Imperialism and antiquated toy cars, tin soldiers, dolls, boats and toy warriors.

Islam Cultural Museum
A museum about the history of the Islam in Simon's Town.

The Old Naval Water Storage Tank, Jubilee Square, Albertyn's Cottage, Memorial South African Naval War, East Dockyard Gates, Martello Tower and the Roman Rock Lighthouse are further sights.
Simon's Town is, however, also famous for its beautiful and protected beaches as Windmill Beach, Froggy Pond and Long Beach.

Boulders Beach is the most beautiful beach, however. This beach situated south of Simon's Town, received its name from the big, round granite rocks.

And here is also a very special attraction: In Boulders lives and breedes since 1985 one of the two penguin colonies of South Africa.

A part of the beach is exclusively reserved for the about 3000 penguins which can be observed from wooden footpath and platforms. In the southern beach section you'll enjoy a marvellous bathing-beach that human being and penguin split. It's even possible two swim with the droll one, 2 - 4 kg heavy, birds.
