The Lion's Head (669 metres) is a famous conical peak located in between Table Mountain and Signal Hill. Signal Hill can be regarded as a low-lying extension of the peak and is sometimes called 'The Lion's Flank'. The upper part of the peak consists Sandstone and the lower slopes are formed by the Cape Granite and the Malmesbury formation, which are older rocks. The Lion's Head is known for spectacular 360 degree-view over the city and the hour-long walk to the top is particularly popular during full moon or just before sunrise. |
