South Africa is not a typical low budget travel country. Package holiday as in the Caribbean or in Asia is almost completely missing here and the flight all over an entire continent and back is about € 500,- to € 900,-. In South Africa it's a must to rent a car. The public traffic network is not so well as in Europe and the Cape area is so charm-full that you will estimate the mobility and the independence which offers you an own vehicle on site very much. A rented car of the golf class costs with an international provider including insurance about € 30,- a day. Best way to book the car already at home. Refueling is another experience in South Africa. The service station net in the Cape area is excellent, you are still served and the costs are about half as high as in Germany. The Food- and also the restaurant prices are clearly under European level. Additional costs, as entries to Nature Reserves, rides with the Table Mountain cable car and special activities, is clearly under European level. Accommodations are generally a little more favorable than in Europe. If you takes the often distinguished situation into account, you receive more living-value for your money than in other holiday destinations all over the world.
