South Africa can be visited from travellers from Europe without a jetlag. For that, however, you exchange the seasons! During our cold and wet winter months it's midsummer in the cape area! South Africa lies in the moderate subtropics, the temperatures are quite regular. The climate of Cape Town and the Cape Peninsula is absolutely similar with that at the Mediterranean Sea. Because of its situation close to the sea you won't have nights in winter colder than +5 degrees Celsius and during the day you can enjoy sometimes up to 20 degrees. The cape area shas 300 sun days per year. The few rainy days are concentrated onto the winter months. And also then the sun often shines again after a short shower. In the summer Cape Town and the Cape Peninsula lie mostly within an extensive high pressure zone with warm and dry weather. The temperatures vary then between 20 and 30 degrees at the coast. Please pay attention if you're planning excursions to the wider inland (for example to the Little Karoo or the Winelands), because there the temperatures can reach easyly 40 degrees C and more. The 'Southeaster', a strong and warm wind from southeast direction is blowing regulary during summer and affects the famous tablecloth: Warm air condenses at the Tablemountain. Little Paradise is climatically especially favored near to the coast and protected by the mountains. That means, the sea guarantees warmer temperatures in winter and a pleasant freshness in summer. And while 10 km away at the eastern front of the Table Mountain (Constantia) the clouds are piling up, the sun shines still in Noordhoek. |
